1. What points are
Points are a virtual score of ESC Card Generator. You get them for free by taking part in the website (daily reward, voting in simulations, rating songs, achievements…). They only exist inside the website and can only be used inside it.
2. Brand guidelines for points (what will never happen)
These rules are part of the identity of the project and will not change:
- Points are never sold. There is no shop, no payment, no subscription, no advert or offer that gives points in exchange for money, data or anything of value.
- Points are never cashed out or exchanged. They can’t be turned into money, cryptocurrency, vouchers, gift cards, merchandise, tickets, prizes or any physical or digital item outside the website.
- Points never pass between users. There are no transfers, gifts, trades or shared pools. Buying, selling or trading points or accounts — on this website or anywhere else — is forbidden and leads to the account being closed.
- No prizes for predictions. Being right gives you more points and a place on the forecasters’ table. Nothing else.
- Nothing on the website will ever invite you to gamble with real money, and we don’t show gambling adverts or links to betting operators.
If you ever see someone offering to sell or buy points or accounts, please tell us at support@esccardgenerator.com.
3. Why predictions are not gambling
ESC Card Generator is used by fans all over the world, and each country has its own gambling rules. In practically every country, however, an activity is only gambling when it has all three of these ingredients at the same time:
- a stake of money or of something with economic value,
- an uncertain result that depends, at least in part, on chance, and
- a prize in money or in something with economic value.
Our predictions are designed so that the first and third ingredients never exist: points are free, can’t be bought, sold, transferred or exchanged, and winning only gives you more points with no value outside the website. Points never pass from one user to another either — the points you put on a prediction are simply removed, and if you are right the website creates new points for you. This is the same approach followed by the gambling laws of the European Union countries (for example Spain’s Ley 13/2011, which excludes games without economic transfers), the United Kingdom (Gambling Act 2005, where a prize must be money or money’s worth) and many others. The only purpose of predictions is to forecast results together as a community, for fun.
Local rules: if the law of the country where you live forbids or restricts this kind of free prediction game, or sets a higher age, you must follow it and not take part.
This explanation is general information about how the feature is designed, not legal advice for any particular country.
4. How predictions work
- Developers open predictions for an edition of the wiki. The entries are the participants of that edition: new ones appear automatically.
- You choose who will win the edition and how many points to put on it. The odds shown are fixed the moment you confirm: points × odds is the most you can get back if you are right.
- The house always wins. Like a casino, the website never pays out more points than fans put in: it keeps at least a small share of everything staked on each edition. If so many fans are right that the returns would go over that limit, the winnings are shared out in proportion among them. You always get at least your own points back when you are right. Odds are capped at 26.00 (25/1).
- Odds start from the community’s star ratings (or the developers’ estimates) and move as fans make predictions: the more points on an entry, the lower its odds.
- Limits per edition (unless a developer sets other values): from 10 to 500 points per prediction, at most 2000 points and 10 predictions per person.
- Predictions close when the show starts (the start of the final).
- When the results are in the wiki, a developer checks that the winner in the wiki is the official winner and confirms it. Only then are the right predictions paid. If the wiki was wrong, it is corrected first.
- If an entry withdraws or is removed, every prediction on it is refunded in full and you get an e-mail. If an edition’s predictions are cancelled, everything is refunded.
- Entries eliminated in a semi-final can’t receive new predictions; existing ones on them lose.
5. Who can take part
Predictions are only for people aged 18 or over — or the age of majority in your country, if it is higher — with an account and a confirmed e-mail. Before your first prediction you confirm your age and that you understand these rules. Even though no money is involved, we keep games that look like betting away from minors everywhere.
6. Responsible play
Predictions should be fun. If they stop being fun, stop. We built a few tools to help:
- Take a break: in Account settings you can block predictions for yourself for 7 days, 30 days, 3 months, a year or indefinitely. A break can’t be shortened once it starts.
- Limits per prediction and per edition, and only one question per edition (who wins), with a clear end: the show.
- No notifications pushing you to predict; only news about predictions you already made.
