Biography

Thukten Nyendra—known professionally simply as Nyendra—is an independent singer-songwriter, musician, and producer born between 2001 and 2002 in Mebisa (Chukha District, Bhutan). He is notable for being the first-ever representative from Bhutan at the Eurovision Asia Song Contest.

Early years and beginnings:
Nyendra grew up in a musically inclined family and began playing the guitar and singing at the age of four. At 19, he moved to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital, to pursue his artistic career while balancing his university studies. In July 2025, he graduated with a degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Royal Thimphu College.

During his early years, he gained recognition by performing at venues, bars, and local events in Thimphu, as well as by self-producing his own singles for digital platforms like YouTube. His most notable releases include "Secrets" (featuring Jigme Chophel Wangyel), "Zamling," "Like I Wish," and "Ta Mey." His style is defined by acoustic pop with contemporary and melancholic undertones, sung in both English and Dzongkha.

Journey to Eurovision Asia 2026:
In August 2026, the Bhutanese public broadcaster selected Nyendra as one of the five finalists in the Rhythm of Bhutan national contest—the selection process to choose the country's representative for the inaugural Eurovision Asia Song Contest 2026.

On August 11, 2026, Nyendra won the selection with a total of 52 points—combining jury votes and televotes (both national and international)—surpassing groups such as The Sangay Lhaden Band and Baeyul 301.

With his song "Lhayi Semo," a fusion ballad performed in Dzongkha, he will represent Bhutan at the festival taking place on November 14, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand.
