Biography
Thinlamphone Mahavong, known in the music industry simply as Thinla (formerly Thinlamphone), is a Laotian singer-songwriter and artist born in Khong (Champasak Province). She is one of the most prominent emerging figures in Laotian pop, thanks to a style characterized by the fusion of local folk genres—such as khap-lam or mor lum—with pop and contemporary rhythms.
Early years and training:
In 2006, Thinla moved with her family to the country's capital, Vientiane. She began serious vocal training at the age of 13 and later enrolled at the National School of Arts in Vientiane, where she studied singing, traditional Laotian performance (khap-lam), and dance. She officially launched her professional music career in 2015.
International profile:
Her career took off in 2019 following the release of the collaboration "Na Na Na" with Laotian musician Zamio P. In January 2020, she won the silver medal (second place) at the Hạ Long International Music Festival in Vietnam.
Over the following years, she expanded her reach by performing at the Sabaidee Fest in California (USA) and at events in China, as well as representing Laos at the Round Festival in Busan, South Korea.
Participation in Eurovision Asia 2026:
On September 13, 2026, the Laotian public broadcaster (VTE9) announced Thinla's internal selection as the country's representative for the inaugural edition of the Eurovision Asia Song Contest.
To select her song, the broadcaster organized a national selection event titled Sieng Lao: The One, held on September 23 and 24, 2026. Thinla performed three candidate songs: "Bae," "Star," and "Water." Following the combined vote of the jury, the Laotian televote, and the international vote, the song "Bae" was declared the winner on September 24.
It will represent Laos on November 14, 2026, at the One Bangkok Forum.
